Malaga

Ok, time to stop messing about. If you’re going all the way to Spain for your stag-do, then you might as well go in all guns blazing. Dubbed the capital of the Costa del Sol, Malaga is proper Spain. Where the golden sand of the Malaguetta beach contrasts with the bloodstained sand of the Maestranza bullring. Where the beautiful, dark-eyed Malagueña girls demand real men to grab their attention. Where cuba libres are mixed with more rum than coke. Where the nightclub crowd heads home at sunrise and is rested, risen and supping shandy in a beach-bar by late-morning. If you can manage to keep pace with the locals, Malaga guarantees a legendary Spanish stag weekend. The only question is, do you have the cojones to take it on?!

Having been around for the best part of three millennia, Malaga has been home to the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Moors and Christians, so expect a stag with a side serving of local culture. The history of Malaga is a big ol’ book but there are plenty of empty pages to write your own chapter of mythical stag adventures. By day, consider Malaga your adventure playground of pleasure. Here in the big city, the menus come in Spanish first and English second, so get that Castillian lisp revved up and get stuck into some of the most delicious Mediterranean grub you’re ever likely to try. Needless to say that with so much sun, the locals are experts on serving up an ice-cool beer (or six), and the old-town’s ancient taverns and terraces will ensure that you never go thirsty. The beach is buzzing (and there’s more sexy local skin on show than Northern European Pirelli bellies). Here, you won’t have to worry about choosing between beach relaxation and city excitement, because in Malaga you’ve got both!

Then there’s the question on every stag-organiser's lips- what things are there to do in Malaga? Well, really the question is, how much can you fit in?! Jet skiing, parapenting, gorge walking, La Liga football, go-karting, deep-sea fishing, bullfighting, golf, mountain biking…the list goes on and on. And the great thing is, it’s all nearby! Finally of course, there’s the outrageous nightlife (trust us, you won’t be disappointed!) It’s time to turn all the dials up to eleven and set the controls for the centre of the (Costa del) Sol. Welcome to the wild and wonderful world of Andalusia’s second city.

Getting to Malaga… and getting away

One of the benefits of a Malaga stag is that you really don’t have to waste precious party time on getting to the action area. Malaga airport is only 8km from the city centre, so in the time it takes to stash away your passport and rip the stickers off your luggage, you’ll already be arriving at your accommodation. The standard way to get into town is on the train (Malaga Aeropuerto to Malaga Centro Alameda), which takes about 20 minutes. However, to get the stag-wagon rolling, why not spice things up by requesting our super smooth airport transfer. We’ll have your wheels waiting right outside the airport exit gates and rockin’ into town like a bona-fide Malagueño Mafioso.

Puerto Banus

When Puerto Banus first opened for business, they say that the A-List party guests wolfed down 22 kilos of Beluga caviar. Hugh Hefner, the Aga Khan and Julio Iglesias were present that night and the celebs and super-rich have been coming here ever since. Like the Holywood stars who are often spotted here, the Costa’s most exclusive port is almost half a century old but still looks like a million dollars. If nothing but the best will do, then forget the other contenders, Puerto Banus is the Mayfair on the Costa del Sol Monopoly board, and it will make for one hell of a stag or hen experience.

Exclusivity is what it’s all about here. Your jaw might drop when a vintage Ferrari or yellow Lamborghini cruises down the main strip, but the locals will only bat an eyelid when the Saudi prince’s mega-yacht docks in the marina. There is no doubt that the 1000 vessels sparkling in the harbour provide the focal point to Puerto Banus in the day time. However, when the sun goes down the focus shifts to the port’s oh-so-chic nightspots, where you can rub Armani-clad shoulders with the cream of the party-scene.

If you want to feel like a millionaire for a few days, then here’s the place to come. Peruse the designer shops of Luis Vuitton, Hugo Boss or Doir. Stroll along and admire the finest vessels on the Med. Invite millionaires’ daughters (or sons) to cocktails at the coast’s swankiest drinking spots. Pull out your designer sunglasses and mix with the trendy beach crowd. Forget that you’re faking it and flaunt it with the best of them. Best of all, you don’t have to blow a fortune to enjoy it (though you certainly can if you want!). When your group gets to Puerto Banus then forget everything else – it’s your turn to live like an (Arabian) Prince and party like it’s 1999.

Getting to Puerto Banus... and getting away

Unless you are sailing into town with Sean Connery or Beyonce (unlikely) then you’ll be flying into Malaga Airport (about 40 miles up the coast). Flights to Malaga are frequent from almost all UK airports which is great if your group lives in different parts of the UK. To get to your accommodation in Puerto Banus we strongly recommend opting for an airport transfer. This way you can stop worrying about potential Spanish taxi calamities and bask in the glory of your superb organisational skills as our chauffer whisks your group to the ‘Nus.

Benalmadena

Like an Aston Martin DB7, Citizen Kane, or a pair of well-worn Levi 501’s, Benalmadena is the CLASSIC choice for a Spanish stag or hen do on the Costa del Sol. If you want tried and tested stag satisfaction then look no further. Benalmadena is a proven winner, giving you everything a stag group requires – fabulous beaches, (almost) guaranteed sunshine, superb nightlife and a raft of things to do – at prices which are as low as they go. Result!

Yours won’t be the first stag group to saunter down to Benalmadena's beautiful marina area, supping on an inaugural beer and buzzing with anticipation at the fun to come. Equally, yours won’t be the last stag group to roll out towards Malaga airport with a barrow-load of cloudy party memories and a collection of already legendary stories to look back on. The thing is, Benalmadena is so perfectly set-up for a killer stag experience that its popularity as a pre-wedding blow-out destination comes as no surprise.

For a start, Benalmadena is a town divided into two distinct parts, which between them cover all the bases. The first part is Benalmadena Pueblo (the old town) where you can – before things get too rowdy – enjoy a bit of Spanish culture. Think traditional white-washed Andalusian buildings, small tapas taverns and palm-lined squares. The second zone - where our groups are based and (usually) spend most of their time - is Benalmadena Costa, set around the wonderful marina. Here, the bevy of yachts forms an impressive focal-point. However, just as impressive as the stellar vessels is the sheer choice of bars, shops and restaurants which envelop the port and call for instant exploration.

When the time comes to kick things up a notch or two on the alcohol-ometer, then Plaza Solimar (more commonly known as 24-hour square) is the place to go. In this crazy bar and club-lined square, the beats thump 24 hours a day, 365 days a year allowing you to party around the clock to your heart’s content.

If reading the above already has you buzzing at the prospect of eating, drinking and partying in Benalmadena, then just imagine the endorphin explosion that the real thing will provoke. However, there is one key aspect of Benalmadena that we have yet to mention – at The Spain Event we are always ready to soup-up your itinerary with some super-exciting activities! Our list of things to do is vast and varied, catering for both adrenaline-seekers and those who demand relaxation and pampering. Our karting track is a metaphorical coliseum where you can let loose your competitive instincts. Alternatively, we’d love to introduce you to a Spainevent favourite, Canyoning, in the mountains above the town. If merely paddling in the Med isn’t enough for you, why not conquer the waves on a jet-ski or banana-boat? And if all that just seems a bit much, then our spa-afternoon - in a local health club - will cure any hangover. Of course, these suggestions are just the tip of the iceberg (not that you’ll find any of those in Benalmadena, but you get the point). For a full list of activities, check out our comprehensive guide.

In short, if you’re after a truly memorable sun-and-sand stag-do at prices which are as palatable as the beachside cocktails, then Benalmadena is the obvious choice.

Getting to Benalmadena... and getting away

Getting to Benalmadena
is so easy it's untrue. Once you've got your flights to Malaga sorted, then the rest is as easy as AB Seaside. The most obvious (though least glamorous) option is to jump on the train (final destination Fuengirola) at the airport terminal. In just 18 minutes you'll be hopping off at "Benalmadena - Arroyo de la Miel". If you require the ultimate in convenience (and top stag organisation kudos from your mates) then the winning choice is private transfer. This way you'll have transport direct from the airport terminal to the doors of your accommodation. Who said this organisation malarkey was difficult? With a little Spainevent magic, you'll be hitting the Benalmadena bars before you know it.
